PLACETAKER: Projects for the Giardini of Venice presents the work of four European Universities as part of the "Future Cities” program, an architectural design research project that responds to the needs of cities in crisis and cities suffering from stagnation or decline. The Biennale in Venice, its organization as well as its spatial representation, was chosen for further speculations on the future of Venice. The issue documents architectural and urban interventions that modify the character of the Biennale to transform its relationship to Venice. Projects for the Giardini is a collaboration between Technische Universität Berlin, Germany; Technische Universität Graz, Austria; Università IUAV di Venezia, Italy; and Univerza v Ljubljani, Slovenia. The issue is edited by Prof Boštjan Vuga and Birgit Klauck.
