1. Imaginaries on Matter – Tools, Materials, Origins" is an innovative architectural research endeavor merging historical-cultural studies with digital material exploration. Focused on material imagination, it challenges conventional choices in architecture through reverie and technology, advocating for rooted relations with materials. Featuring interviews and a postscript by David Leatherbarrow, the book rejects the idea that materials are inconsequential in today's architectural discourse. It emphasizes materials' role in fostering creativity and reshaping their significance in design and theory. It delves into the richness of materials, urging readers to explore limitless possibilities with joy and fascination.
2. Xi Ye, a scholar at Macau University of Science and Technology, focuses on architectural and cultural criticism, with recent work in Architectural Research Quarterly. Holding a Master's in Urban Design from Cardiff University and a Ph.D. in architecture from Newcastle University, Xi Ye's book, "Conceptual and Pragmatic," explores the tension between architects' ideals and everyday experiences, discussing user subjectivity, sensory aspects, and connections to popular culture. The book evaluates the influence of Western architecture on Chinese practice, considering tensions with cultural traditions and social conditions.
